MLK Day - National Day of Service Opportunities

MLK Day - National Day of Service Opportunities

Next Monday, January 15, we will once again honor one of the most important figures in all of American history, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Many of us grew up learning about his accomplishments, his impact, and his dream, so it would be a disservice to our students if we did not continue to keep his legacy alive through what we do as a school.

As part of our community service initiatives for the 2023-2024 school year, we are encouraging all members of the Aidan community to view this “day off” as a “day on” by giving back and participating in the MLK National Day of Service. There are a number of wonderful ways to participate and honor Dr. King’s legacy by supporting and connecting with our local community. For families looking for opportunities to get involved, Volunteer Arlington will be hosting their annual MLK Service Day on January 15th, which features a number of great service activities.

On Monday, I alongside other Aidan families will be attending the Nauck to Green Valley: Transforming a Community by Encore Stage & Studio as part of Volunteer Arlington’s MLK Day of Service. This will be a 45 minute performance telling the story of one of the oldest African-American communities in the country and how it grew and evolved thanks to the courageous spirit of its original founders. If you're looking for a worthwhile activity to engage in on our day off, look no further! All students and their guardians are welcome to attend the service day at Washington-Liberty School. If you are interested in joining on this day, contact me at

Whether you are able to join us at Washington Liberty School for Nauck to Green Valley or find another service opportunity that speaks to your family, we hope you have an opportunity to reflect and honor Dr. King’s legacy this weekend!
