Stopping the Flu is Up to YOU!

Stopping the Flu is Up to YOU!

A Note from Nurse Lexi

Did you know that in a bad flu season, 40 million to 50 million Americans may catch the flu with around 800,000 of them requiring hospitalization? The 2022 flu season is quickly approaching and now is the perfect time to begin preparation and prevention.

The Aidan Community has avoided many illnesses over the past couple years with the introduction of many layers of precautions. As we begin to relax some of these mitigation strategies, it is expected that illnesses may circulate more easily throughout the building. We have already seen a degree of this, which is both frustrating and also excitingly normal for the back-to-school flow.

There is still a sense that our children are “playing catch-up” socially, emotionally, and academically from COVID and the past 2 school years. We want our children in school for as many days as physically possible. One way to ensure more time in class and reduce the chances of illness in your household is to get your flu shot.

As a school, we strongly encourage all students, staff, and family members to get their flu shots. It is recommended that everyone over six months of age get a flu vaccine every fall, preferably by the end of October. The earlier you get your immunization, the better. Allow yourself time to build up your immunity before the flu is widespread, and help us keep our Aidan community healthy and happy!

Stay well,

Nurse Lexi
