"Light A Candle for Peace:" How Aidan Celebrated International Day of Peace

On September 21, the students, faculty, and staff at Aidan held a heartwarming celebration in observance of International Day of Peace.

In order to cultivate a feeling of awareness and unity in light of this special day, Primary and Elementary students were gathered outside at the Marriott Lawn to sing "Light a Candle for Peace," written by Shelley Murley. This is part of an annual tradition Montessori schools across the world partake in known as "Sing Peace Around the World."

This celebration was done to not only serve as an enjoyable means of bringing our students together for a fun experience, but also to remind our students that they are more than just valued members of the Aidan community. The global celebration aspect was also emphasized to give each student a scope of how far peace education reaches around the world.

Peace education and values remain paramount at Aidan as each community member does their part to uphold Maria Montessori's vision of peace and education. Allowing each student to navigate the world and create their own unique definition of peace will result in our students going forth into the world with respect, grace, and courtesy for individuals of all backgrounds.

After the group sang "Light a Candle for Peace," Ms. Skor led the elementary community in crafting their own unique pinwheels to plant in front of the school to serve as a beautiful visual to celebrate International Day of Peace. Watching each pinwheel spin as the afternoon breeze picked up put plenty of smiles on the faces of our students, topping off our celebration in the best way possible.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank each and every member of the Aidan community for giving way to wonderful celebrations such as these! May we continue to keep Maria Montessori's legacy alive through our commitment to spreading peace, both in and out of the classroom.
