Fall Update from Aidan's Library

Fall Update from Aidan's Library

Greetings from Aidan Library!

We have been busy this fall in the Distance Learning program, with read-alouds and storytime videos for Primary, book-talks videos and research assistance for Elementary, and weekly book checkouts available for all students. Primary and Lower Elementary assistants have been utilizing many books from the Early Chapter books section of the Library for reading to their students. The Library is preparing now for the upcoming hybrid program, making sure all reference and research books are ready for classroom use. We continue to get new books in, and the weekly book borrowing system will continue during hybrid learning - remember that you can borrow as many as 3 books at a time, and the library catalog is available for searching from home!

Some Primary books that I have read to the children recently and particularly recommend are The Branch, by author Mireille Messier and illustrator Pierre Pratt, and Small in the City by Sydney Smith, which won the prestigious Ezra Jack Keats award this year. A few Elementary books that I want to mention in particular are Like Nothing Amazing Ever Happened by Emily Blejwas (historical fiction, ages 10-14), and the just-published The Last Mirror on the Left by Lamar Giles (science fiction, ages 8-12, sequel to the imaginative and exciting The Last Last-Day-of-Summer). Emily Blejwas’s book has sadness and struggle but also optimism, and very memorable characters - one reviewer says they are “filled with...innate goodness” (Kirkus Reviews). Lamar Giles’ Alston Boys sequel is action-packed and as good or even better than the first book!

Please contact me for anything about the Library!  I look forward to continuing to work with Aidan students and families as we move into our new program.

Happy Reading,

Ms. Stewart
