Chinese Corner: Fall Update

Chinese Corner: Fall Update

Happy New Year! It's been an exciting fall for the Chinese students at Aidan and I am excited to share an update on what we have been working on at each level.

Our Primary students have been working on their basic vocabulary. We have been learning to count up to 10, and practicing the names of colors, animals, types of weather and food in an immersion environment. We practice this vocabulary by reading picture books, through fun movement activities, singing songs, and working on puzzles.

The Lower Elementary students have been working on the Chinese alphabet in addition to learning the names of numbers, months and types of weather. We have reinforced this vocabulary by singing songs, making calendars, designing board games, and creating presentations and reports. We also been exploring parts of Chinese culture by learning traditional games and activities, such as Hawks Catch Chicken and Chinese Go.

Our Upper Elementary students have enjoyed exploring the rich cultural traditions and diversity of China throughout the fall semester. In addition to practicing vocabulary, students have demonstrated this deeper understanding through presentations. They also enjoyed celebrating these traditions by making authentic Chinese food, such as Mooncake and Chinese Pumpkin Pie. As we look ahead to the coming Lunar New Year, students will continue to work on their zodiac legend stories, make their favorite zodiac animal bookmarks, and will explore some traditions and recipes used to celebrate the new year.

Sincerely,

Xixi Chen
