Parachutes, Team Sports, and Outdoor Exploration
Parachutes, Team Sports, and Outdoor Exploration

by Bryan Librizzi, Director of Discovery & Summer Camps and Physical Education Teacher

This month in Physical Education we are enjoying the warmer weather! In Primary, we have taken out our giant parachute and learned how to get arm exercise and work together to complete a number of challenges. Additionally, the kids have started playing advanced modified games. These tag-type games introduce boundaries, offense and defense, teamwork, and objectives. Communication, cooperation, and patience are all skills that our Primary children have been using. Additionally, they are having a blast!

The Elementary students have moved from Gymnastics and Body Management to Team Sports and Outdoor Education. During Team Sports, we introduce abstract ideas like offensive strategy, zones, and pace which the students synthesize and apply in live games. When Elementary isn't playing games, they are exploring the outdoors. As we explore Rock Creek Park, Woodley Park, and Tregaron Park, we discuss hydration, first aid, dangerous plant identification, and outdoor risk management.
