PA Aikido Day Camps: For When School is Out
PA Aikido Day Camps: For When School is Out

Dear Parents,

Hello! The November 9-10 Aidan Parent-teacher conferences are around the corner. For new families or families that have changing parental work schedules, we want to make sure you know about a valuable resource in the community when the school and ASP are closed. On these days, DC Aikido offers day camps for students at their dojo on Connecticut Avenue next to Lebanese Taverna.

Some of you may be familiar with the DC Aikido Studio on Connecticut Avenue, the site of many a birthday party and after-school activity in the Woodley Park community. The studio has also hosted Discovery programs in the past, which is how our family learned about DC Aikido. We discovered that several fellow Aidan families also utilized their Spring Break offerings. https://dcaikido.com/

Last year, in response to parents' requests, the Parent Association approached DC Aikido about the possibility of hosting full-day camps when school is out of session, eliminating the need to arrange gap care, or rearrange work and drop-off schedules for Aidan families. There are seven calendar days in the remainder of the year where school is closed due to a federal holiday or Parent Teacher conferences, and another 4 half days of closure for Staff in Session working days. When you add in children's sick days, doctor's appointments, and all of the other demands of family life, these days add up quickly and can pose challenge for even the most flexible workplace. After hearing of these concerns from parents, the PA sought out an option to help ease some of these pressures.

If this might be of interest to you, please review the list below and send an email to the director. DC Aikido will also provide paperwork for flexible spending accounts.

Please note: All of these camps are scheduled subject to parent interest, so please email the studio director, Ryan, at ryan@dcaikido.com, if you would like to be placed on the list for a particular day. The studio will need to have a minimum of 10 students signed up in order to host the camp.

Our children enjoyed several of these camps last year and will do so again this year!

Finally, please let us know if there are other needs within the Aidan community that we can help work to solve. We appreciate your feedback and input!

Best,

Amy Lancaster and Kevin Ward
PA Co-Chairs 2017-2018
