January Book Recommendation: The Smallest Cow in the World

Katherine Paterson, author of Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved, wrote a chapter book for younger readers called The Smallest Cow in the World which we recently added to Aidan Library.

In this book, a child named Marvin is very sad when his family has to move away from a farm where his dad works, and he especially doesn't want to leave behind his favorite cow, Rosie. He imagines that he is bringing Rosie with him in the form of a tiny cow he can carry around. His dad finds a tiny bottle and pokes some air holes in the top so Marvin can pretend Rosie is in it and it is her little barn.

This story will appeal to Primary and Lower Elementary ages and can be helpful for children going through a big transition such as a geographical move. Illustrations by Jane Clark Brown are colorful and realistic.
