Fall Discovery Program Overview & Registration

Aidan is thrilled to welcome Phillip Katinas as our new Director of Auxiliary Programs. Phillip will be overseeing our After-School Program (ASP), Discovery, and Physical Education this year.

Our Fall Discovery lineup has a mixture of some popular returning classes and new classes that are sure to be a hit. We even have some classes taught by Aidan's own teachers. Below, please find a description of each of our Discovery options for each level, the dates they will be offered, the cost for each program.

Registration will open on Wednesday, September 5 at 11am - the registration link will be available in our September edition of School Notes.

Discovery Class Information

Mondays

Breakdance: Primary 3-6 (2:45-3:45 PM) & Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$221 for 8 Sessions - Dates: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5

This designed dance program focuses on teaching, developing and fostering the dance techniques and foundations of Breakin'. The goal is to have students create and express their own personal style and see progress after each class session. The program is foundation-based and will build upon the previous weeks concepts and lessons.

Sports & Movement: Primary 3-6 (2:45-3:45 PM)

$192 for 8 Sessions - Dates: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5

Just for Kids is excited to offer one of our most popular classes. Students will run, jump, play with soccer balls, participate in hoop jumping, practice tee-ball, lacrosse, soccer, and more! Children will learn balance and muscle control during physical activity all while having fun!

Math/Language Bridge: Elementary - Grades 3-6 only (3:55-4:55 PM)

$126 for 7 Sessions - Dates: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5

Remove some of the fear of standardized tests! This is not a test prep class (SSAT nor Scantron) however, students will work in small groups and class settings to solve math and English language arts questions commonly found on standardized tests such as scantron/SSAT/ISEE. The goal of this course is to illustrate how certain Montessori topics and subjects might be presented in a test format. Students will work through problems using whiteboards, pencil paper, computer quizzes, and other game settings.

Tuesdays

Art Brains: Primary - Ages 5-6 only (2:45-3:45 PM) & Elementary - Grades 1-4 only (3:55-4:55 PM)

$168 for 8 Sessions - 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6

The ART BRAINS program moves far beyond the average arts and crafts hour, inspiring kids to think independently, creatively problem-solve, and expand on their ideas in an atmosphere of high imagination and empowered experimentation. We know that kids engaged in the arts gain academic and problem-solving ability, confidence, interpersonal skills and empathy, and our creative curricula are designed with these qualities in mind. Students will: tell stories with light and shadow, invent new colors and re-invent the layers of our earth, create a Thanksgiving feast on Mars, document layers of history in an illustrated "time sandwich", sculpt representations of tumbleweeds that have blown through their dreams, and more!

Writing Workshop: Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$144 for 8 Sessions - 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6

Will robots take over the world? Do colors have smells? What did you eat for breakfast on the most important day of your life? Join us for the fall Writing Workshop to find and share answers to these and many other important questions. Together we will participate in all aspects of the writing process, from brainstorming and drafting to revising and editing. And, most importantly, we will have fun! This class is taught by Aidan's own Emily Navarro!

Wednesdays

Knight School Chess: Primary 3-6 (2:45-3:45 PM) & Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$204 for 8 Sessions - 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7

(Primary): Knight School Chess provides chess lessons for beginners with a focus on high-energy, fun chess lessons. The class focuses on the importance of good sportsmanship, building excitement about chess, and developing critical thinking and problem solving skills at this formative age, all with silly chess songs, chess movies, and chess puppet shows!

(Elementary) The Knight School Chess welcomes students of all skill levels! We focus on high-energy, super fun

chess play and high-level chess tactics and strategies. Chess classes use fast chess clocks, zany chess

movies, and colorful chess bracelets to achieve maximum fun and an advanced skill level!


Zumba: Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$144 for 8 Sessions -9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7

Come and join this up-tempo class that will teach the basics of Zumba dance! Students will learn choreography, fitness routines, and get great exercise each week! Taught by Aidan's own Lanka Mudannayake!

Lacrosse: Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$192 for 8 Sessions -9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7

This class is designed for elementary students who may have some experience with lacrosse or are brand new. Classes will focus on basics: stick work, ground balls, passing and catching as well as using both dominant and non-dominant sides. We will work on defense, midfield connections and offensive tactics as we learn how to play the game. Where possible, we will play keep-away games to put what we learn into practice. Each child is encouraged to practice stick tricks, passing and use of non-dominant side (doing every day tasks) outside of classes.

Thursdays

Mad Science Primary 3-6 (2:45-3:45 PM) & Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$168 for 8 Sessions - 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/15

This semester, Mad Science students will take part in "Experimentamania!" Experimentamania is a cornucopia of experiments! Children will uncover the vital role that science plays in detective work, examine the science behind popular toys and get a buzz out the amazing world of insects! Your Mad Scientists will explore Earth Science, weather phenomena, and experiment with some kitchen chemistry. Children will build their own Mad Science Machine, and create their very own short animated cartoon! Each day of class has a different theme and features special kits and materials!

Boys Will Run: Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$108 for 8 Sessions - 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/15

Students in Boys Will Run not only run, but work on the fundamentals of running itself by correcting students' form. Making students more efficient at running reduces long-term injuries and helps them enjoy one of the most effective forms of exercise available. Running also boosts self-confidence, curbs obesity and, perhaps most significantly of all, instills exercise habits that can last a lifetime.

Fridays

Tippi Toes Ballet: Primary 3-6 (2:45-3:45 PM) & Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$202 for 9 Sessions - 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30, 12/7

Get ready to turn your classroom into a stage and dance like your favorite pop stars! In this high energy, age appropriate class, students will learn popular jazz techniques and hip hop combinations that they see their favorite pop stars doing! Students will focus on a number elements including musicality, coordination, improvisation, and style, all while listening to their favorite music!

EduTyping: Elementary 6-12 (3:55-4:55 PM)

$144 for 8 Sessions - 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30

The EduTyping, Jr. curriculum introduces new keys by rows where students first learn the middle row, then the top row, and the bottom row of the keyboard. The content is designed with a strong focus on sight and high frequency words. This program is being facilitated using B.E. Publishing's EduTyping and will be taught by Aidan's own Jordyn Walker!

***All participants must supply their own WiFi enabled laptop to participate in the class. Computers will not be provided by the school, instructor, or program***

Additional Note about Girls on the Run

A separate email went out to families with girls in Grades 3-6 about registering for Girls on the Run. This Discovery class will run on Tuesdays & Thursdays. In case you missed the link and you would like your daughter to participation in Girls on the Run, please contact us!
