We are thrilled to announce that it is once again time for the annual Aidan Book Fair! This beloved Aidan tradition is a wonderful opportunity for our families and friends to support the school, while also promoting reading as a fun and enriching activity for our children. Flyers will be sent home with all students today and Monday - be sure to bring these with you to the Book Fair on October 24 and show it at the register when you check out.
This year, in addition to stocking your own bookshelves, participants have the ability to purchase books for the School Library and books to donate to Bright Beginnings!
Happily, the Book Fair is on for this fall, but due to some COVID-19 restrictions at Politics & Prose Bookstore we are doing it a bit differently. Instead of lists of books or wish list cards for our two Fair recipients, Aidan Library and Bright Beginnings, we've included some general donation guidelines below, with just a few examples of specific books.
As part of Politics and Prose's COVID restrictions, there won't be Aidan parent volunteers working a table to receive your purchases at the store, so please bring your books purchased for Aidan and Bright Beginnings directly to the school. There will be a place in front of the School where you can drop off donated books the week of October 25. Simply indicate whether or not the book is for Aidan's Library or Bright Beginnings and place it in the appropriate box!
We can't wait for next Sunday's Book Fair and hope all members of the Aidan community are able to participate! Please spread the word to families and friends by sharing our Book Fair Flyer and encouraging people to pop into Politics & Prose next Sunday.

Politics & Prose Bookstore, 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW. There is parking both on Connecticut Ave. as well as in the lot behind the building.
Why should I go to the Aidan Book Fair?
- To Shop! 20% of book sales at Politics & Prose will go to support the school. You can help the school AND get a head start on your holiday shopping. In order to get credit for your order, be sure to show our Book Fair Flyer at checkout (both digital and paper versions are accepted)!
- To Donate! This year there will be two ways you can donate:
- You can purchase books to donate to Aidan's school library.
- You can purchase books to donate to Bright Beginnings.
What is Bright Beginnings?
Bright Beginnings Child and Family Development Center provides child care and other services to DC families who are in transitional housing. Each year, the Aidan Community supports this wonderful organization by donating new books. Choosing one (or two!) books together is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the importance of philanthropy!
Since we are unable to have a volunteer table with wishlists, Aidan's Librarian, Ms. Stewart, has included some guidelines for families interested in donating books to the Library or Bright Beginnings below.
Aidan Library Book Donation Guidelines:
Any purchases for the library are appreciated and welcome, but we can particularly use:
Fiction and nonfiction for new readers - the I Can Read series and the Ready to Read series are examples of these types of books. Big Cats (Step into Reading series) by Joyce Milton, Living in India by Chloe Perkins, and the Ty's Travels series by Kelly Starling Lyons are some ideas.
Fiction books for the 5 to 8 years old range of ages - these are often called chapter books. Give it a Try, Yasmin! By Saadia Faruqi, the Heroes in Training series by Joan Holub/Tracey West, and Genius Jolene by Sara Cassidy are some ideas in this category.
Bright Beginnings Book Donation Guidelines:
Board books and other books for very young readers, preferably with diverse characters and in real-world settings. B is for Baby by Atinuke and Angela Brooksbank, and Dig, Dump, Roll by Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock, My Friends by Taro Gomi, and Apple Picking Day! By Candice Ransome, are some ideas!
Here are some recommended reads from Bright Beginnings, as well
