About Aidan
With the innovative and proven Montessori method at our core, Aidan prepares children to learn confidently, think independently, and succeed wherever they go.
Aidan Montessori School is a co-ed, independent private school for children ages 18 months through grade 6. Founded in 1961, Aidan is the only school in DC that holds accreditation from the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools (AIMS) and is recognized by the Association Montessori International (AMI-USA).
Aidan follows the highest standards of the innovative and proven Montessori pedagogy that prepares children for successful and fulfilling lives. Everything at Aidan revolves around how children learn best. Here, students have the ideal opportunities, environment, and community to realize their potential so they can grow into independent thinkers, confident learners, effective collaborators, and responsible citizens.
An Aidan education is proven to work. Scientific research continues to confirm the Montessori curriculum as the most effective approach to learning. For more than 50 years, Aidan’s education has been based on children’s natural development, innate curiosity, and remarkable ability to absorb the world around them. Our classroom communities are thoughtfully planned joyful places where children use ingeniously designed materials for hands-on learning and self-discovery. Here education is an adventure. Learning is hands-on. Lessons are welcomed. Work is purposeful. Curiosity is encouraged. Because most of Aidan’s experiences are self-directed, children gain an immense sense of satisfaction and confidence from meeting new challenges—a complex math problem, a long book, a research project.
The result: Children here love to learn, and their passion for knowledge continues far beyond Aidan.
