Who’s
Coming?
By now your
Special People should have received their invitations. If you
can, please try to limit your visitors to no more than four per
child (our classrooms are big, but it still gets crowded in there!)
Parents should not attend Special Persons’ Day unless you
have signed up to volunteer or if no Special People are coming
to visit your child. In that case you are the Special Person
for the day. If neither you nor anyone else can visit
your child, please call the school at (202) 387-2700 immediately
to let us know. Every child should have a visitor!
Arriving
Please drop
off your children at the same time you normally arrive. If you
arrive after 9:00am, please park and walk your children to class.
Please DON’T park in front of the School! Your
best bet is to drop off your Special People along with your children
in the morning. The lane in front of the School will
be available all morning for curbside drop-off of Special People.
Greeters will be on hand to direct them to the Church auditorium.
There is an elevator in the Church for those who have trouble
with stairs. If you want to park, look for spaces on 27th, 28th,
29th, Garfield or Cathedral or you can go to the Marriott Wardman
Hotel. Parking there is $11/hour, or $23/day.
Checking
In and Visiting
In
the Church there will be a table (staffed by parent volunteers)
with an envelope for
each family.
It will contain 4 photo buttons, a Program and an assignment to
either Group A or Group B.
We split the Special People into 2 groups to avoid overcrowding
in the classrooms.
After a slide show about Montessori education, Group A
will visit classrooms for 30 minutes, then return to the Church
so Group B can go over. There will be coffee, and light
refreshments as well as displays and a video of the Elementary
Musical for people to watch while they are waiting in the Church.
At 11:30 all Special People will gather in the Church
for a performance by the Elementary classes.
Toddlers have a special schedule. Visitors meet them in the playground
at 10:30. Together they can visit the classroom and leave, or
come over to watch the Elementary performance.
Leaving
• Toddlers
leave with their Special People anytime between 10:45 and 11:15.
• Primary students will stay in School
during the performance at the Church, and should be picked up
from the steps and the playground from 11:45-12:15 at their normal
dismissal times.
• Elementary students leave the Church
with their Special People after the performance.
If your visitor has limited mobility, please have them wait in
front of the school and come through the pick-up line to get them.
Please remember that all children must be picked up by
12:15. There is no afternoon class or ASP on
Special Persons’ Day.
Volunteers
We need parents
to be greeters, help with check in, monitor the refreshments and
guide people to the correct classrooms. Please contact
Dawn Leijon ( 202-237-1292, dleijon@yahoo.com)
if you can work one of these shifts:
8:00am - 9:00am: set up, greet
9:00am - 10:00am: check in, greet, guide, monitor
refreshments (most volunteers needed now)
10:00am - 11:00am: greet, guide, monitor refreshments
11:00am - 12:00am: guide, clean up
