Included on the website is our mission statement, a description of our curriculum, and information about our Aidan community. You will find as you visit the Aidan campus that we are blessed with a remarkable and distinguished faculty whose talent, experience and commitment create an unsurpassed learning environment.

Aidan began its life as St. Aidan School on the campus of Dumbarton School for Girls, a Catholic college for women on what is now the UDC - Van Ness campus. It was founded in 1961 by Catholic parents who wanted a Montessori school for their children. They incorporated as the first Montessori school in Washington as a 501-c(3) not-for-profit corporation and formed the first Board of Directors. Soon after, St. Aidan moved to Military Road where it leased space for 33 years from Temple Sinai. It changed its name in 1985 to Aidan Montessori School to reflect its secular nature.

Aidan purchased the St. Thomas Apostle Church School in 1996 and moved to its present location in historic Woodley Park.

Over the years it joined with other independent schools in the greater Washington area and embraced the practices which guide independent schools nationwide.
