In June, Lucia Braddock, Serena Brown, Sofia Brown, Amira Clark, Ariel Garfield, Nina Gumbs, Ashton Lindeman, and Ian Smith graduated from Aidan Montessori School’s Upper Elementary program during commencement ceremonies held at the National Zoo.
Following a procession of current faculty and the graduates, Mrs. Christine Kranz Smith, Assistant Head of School, greeted the audience and introduced Mr. Andrew Kay, President of the Board of Trustees, and Mrs. Kathy Minardi, Head of School, who both delivered thoughtful messages. Upper Elementary Teacher, Mrs. Kelli York, spoke about each graduate’s beginnings at Aidan, time with former teachers, personality traits, and contributions to the classroom. The Elementary Chorus sang several songs including a few from the Spring Musical: The Sound of Music. They even performed Do Re Mi in Chinese!
Then, the graduates each confidently delivered speeches that included thoughts about experiences at Aidan, their Montessori education, friendships, and the future ahead. One speech was delivered as a poem! Finally, guests and participants enjoyed “How They Grow,” a photographic journey showing images of each graduate from birth to present day, and graduates received their diplomas.
After the ceremonies, parents of Fifth-Year Students hosted a lovely reception for everyone who attended.
This year our graduates were accepted to Edmund Burke School, The Field School, Holton-Arms School, Indian Creek School, The Key School, Maret School, National Cathedral School, The Potomac School, Sandy Springs Friends School, Sidwell Friends School, St. Andrew's Episcopal School, and Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. We wish our 2012 graduates the best in their new schools, and we hope that they will stay in touch!
